This delicious homemade sunflower seed butter recipe is made using only 4 ingredients. It is cost-efficient and works well as an alternative for most recipes that require the use of nut butters.

Sunflower seed butter has a very distinctive taste, either you like it or you don't. I really love this butter and all the nutrients that come with it. Sunflower seed butter does have a very distinctive taste but if you use it in certain recipes like cookies, stir frys and granola you can't even tell that it is there.

This is a really great option for people with nut allergies that can't use any nut butters. This recipe is super easy to make, it uses a few ingredients and tastes amazing.

Homemade sunflower seed butter:

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 5 minutes

Serves: 16 or Makes: 544g



4 cups/ 1000ml raw sunflower seeds

1T/ 15ml honey or liquid sweetener

1T/ 15ml coconut oil, melted

A pinch of salt



1. Spread sunflower seeds in a large frying pan. Lightly toast the seeds in the pan for 5 minutes on a medium-low heat, stirring them frequently.

2. Pour the toasted seeds into a food processor and add in honey and salt. Turn on the food processor and blend until the seeds begin to clump up. Scrape down the sides using a spatula and blend again.

3. Slowly pour in oil and continue to blend until smooth and creamy.

4. Pour into an airtight jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 months.


When ready to use, leave the jar out on the counter top for a few minutes to warm up for easy scooping and spreading.
