Homemade tomato sauce is bursting with tomato flavour and spices. It is super easy to make and is totally worth making. You have not really tasted tomato sauce until you make it yourself.

This tomato sauce is simple, flavourful and is so easy to spice up. You could definitely change it up based on what you love. It is also healthier than store bought tomato sauce and is much more delicious too. Tomato sauce is very versatile and can be used in so many recipes.

Tomato sauce

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Makes: 200ml



400g tin of tomato and onion mix ¼ cup/ 60ml water

2T/ 30ml sweetener of choice ½ t/ 2.5ml dry mixed herbs ½ t/ 2.5ml onion powder ½ t/ 2.5ml garlic powder ½ t/ 2.5ml black pepper ½ t/ 2.5ml paprika 2t/ 10ml brown vinegar



1. Combine all the ingredients in a small pot except the vinegar. Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes. 2. Pour the tomato mixture into a blender and blend until smooth. Place the tomato sauce back into the pot and cook over a low heat for 15 minutes, until thick in consistency. Pour in the vinegar and give the tomato sauce a good stir. 3. Leave the tomato sauce to cool in the pot with the lid off. Once cooled pour into a jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
